This poor beast has been off the road since 1974. It only has 3000 miles on the odometer but they were hard miles put on 1/4 mile at a time at Seattle International Raceway. The story handed to me was that Tenney Lincoln – Mercury in Olympia Washington purchased the car for the sole purpose of racing it at S.I.R. Not the lightest car to use for drag racing but if one wants to rub shoulders with prospective buyers, what better way to do it? Big ticket options made for big profit margins, my guess is that this was a successful marketing tool and even if it wasn't At some point early on the 428 CJ was blown and a 427 Side-Oiler was put in its place ( 427 heads were found in the trunk). When the car was retired from racing a cheap black paint job was applied and it was put on the Tenney used car lot (insignia still on trunk) and sold to a young man with a need for speed. In a very short time the car was wrecked along the driver side and a poor repair was done. Soon after it was fixed, the 427 was over revved and the lower end was damaged. The engine was pulled and sent to the machine shop but the young man never could pay the bill and after a time the 427 block was sold and the car lamented in the driveway. After not too many months, a tow truck sent by the finance company shows up, loads the top-loader four speed on the truck and proceeds to hook up. Out comes the owners father, shot gun in hand, words were exchanged and the driver left with only a used transmission to show for his troubles. The car is then wheeled into the garage for safe keeping and used as a table until the mid 1990’s when Dad decides his less than responsible son will most likely never do anything with it and sends it to the back yard to sit in the tall grass. Forward to 2004 and said Son is at a local body shop talking “cool cars” in the presence of a certain Ford enthusiast and the car finally gets rescued from the elements! This car has a clear, clean Oregon title in the name of Don Rush. The price is $17,500 and comes with all that is shown here and then some. I will finance for 0% interest, take trades for 67-73 Cougar parts or? Lets just say I am flexible and reasonable. This car is not for the faint of heart and should not be undertaken as a 1st attempt at doing a project car. Deep pockets and advanced skills are needed for this complex car. 503-463-1130
Once the car was pushed into the back yard a family member with a 69 took the grille and the trunk mat. The trunk mat and sound deadener being pulled most likely saved the trunk, good luck finding a 3000 mile grille, LOL!
Hi Don! I was looking at this car that you have for sale and wanted to show you this 69 428 4spd CJ I have for sale: It is a very early R code 4 speed (vin 00330). It is completely original and is only missing the ram air breather. It is rusty but the frame rails, torque boxes etc are still good. I have this car unofficially up for sale and have not advertised it yet. It would be a great parts car for the one you have for sale. It has its complete original drive line in tact. Along with most parts your car is missing (I think). If you have any interest in this car feel free to let me know. If you would like to pass my information to any potential buyers for your car feel free to do so, I am asking $12,000 obo and is located in Cabot Arkansas. I also still own the Nordic Blue GT-E. Chris
The sunroof is 100% complete.
Hey Don!! It's Mark Hatchett here... I saw your post on the CJ 4speed sunroof car. I am interested in the car and was wondering what kind of flexibility you had in the price?? I am rock solid interested in this car. You can respond through the forum or email me directly at xxxxxxxx@aol.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks, Mark
Yes! For every loose piece not included with the car the price goes down another notch. Will also take parts trades. Thanks for asking! Don
The driver side 1/4 looks like it can be saved. Much mud was put in it...
Yup... That is a small cedar tree.
The console lid, seats, pull straps and other delicate items do seem to validate 3000 miles.
Dash and steering wheel have no cracks. Most interior parts are very nice.
The flow-through ventilation system is 100% complete.
Notice the notches in the shock towers are notched for 427 exhaust manifolds.
The power window system is 100% complete.
Notice the staggered shock system is untouched.
Original exhaust is toast.
Floor pans are bad put the rockers, torque boxes and frame rails are fine.
Comes with 5 SS wheels
