We stock OEM Ford used engine valve covers and reproduction valve covers. Generally 289/302/351W valve covers all interchange (Boss 302 excluded). 390/427/428 or all of the FE family of Cougar engines will interchange. 351C or Cleveland engines are by themselves, as are 429CJ.
Some after market cylinder head rocker assemblies will not fit under the vintage Ford valve covers. There are adapters or spacers available that offer more clearance to use the early style valve covers or the after market valve covers specifically for use with the roller type tall rocker assemblies. We are listing all of the various valve covers available with their part numbers and descriptions. We will not always have them in stock, check back often.
The factory chromed valve covers generally will not be perfect. They will be good cores or perfect for that grungy vintage look, popular with the Rat Rod crowd. Our recommendation for those prepared to send out a set of valve covers to the chrome shop, consider the painted versions for cores. These will be cheaper to prepare for the plating process.
During the research phase in this valve cover section, we discovered that there are more part numbers than actual valve covers. Royce Peterson shared with us that in some cases that the differences between a right and left valve cover is the inclusion of the rubber grommet for a PCV valve, or that in some cases a valve cover included an oil cap. Used valve covers will generally be sold individually rights and lefts considered equals. You may need to add or remove a grommet for use with a PCV valve or an oil fill cap. Installation tip – We recommend inspecting the flange area of the bolt holes for flatness prior to paint, plating or installation. This is generally a good rule for all used steel valve covers when installing new valve cover gaskets. The area around the bolt holes gets sunken from over tightening. The Ford shop manual indicates only 5-7 foot lbs on those valve cover bolts.
Consider a new PCV valve grommet with your purchase.
