All throughout the Ford and Mercury Master Parts Catalog these harnesses are described as with or without tachometer. Everyone has determined that the Cougar alternator harness is the opposite of the Mustang with tachometer. In reality the issue is the presence of the ammeter. If a Cougar owner were to install the wiring harness for a Mustang with tachometer in his XR7, it would fry itself because the XR7 has an ammeter.
