This is an OEM original with 3/8"-16 threads. Overall length according to the MPC is 9 inches, with 3-1/4 inches being threaded but we have found almost without fail, the actual length is 8" with 3 1/4" of threads.
We also carry the OEM hold down wing nut or spinner nut Mercury Cougar part number B9AZ-1462-A. Additionally, look for the wheel centering plate or disc, part number C5ZZ-1424-A.
Item for sale in this section is only the J-bolt.

For all 1968 Cougar trunks to mount the spare tire. Additionally, this J bolt is also correct for 1970 Cougars with factory style steel wheels. Thread size is 1/2"-13. Total length according to the MPC is 9 inches, with 3-1/4 inches of threads on the end but we often see a 10" version with only 4" of threads. The picture here shows the many variations we have found in trunks of Cougars to date. As we research more we will post our results here. Would love to get specs on J-bolts from those of you with low mile and very original cars.

Unique to 1970 convertible only. Only with stock steel wheels and hubcaps. J bolt MPC lists the length as 6-1/4 inches, with 4 inches on the end threaded but actually there are only 2 1/2" on the threads. Threads 1/2-13.

According to the MPC 1970 primarily, a few 1971-1973's. If you have a hardtop or coupe, (VIN numbers starting with either 0F91 or 0F93) and standard wheels with hub caps. Or, any 1971 - 1973 with style steel wheels. Total length is 6-1/4 inches, with 4 inches being threaded. Threads 1/2-13. We find this bolt to only have 2 1/2" of threads. More data is needed as the MPC is not reliable on these items. What do you have in your trunk? We want to know!
