Starting with the model year 1970, Ford moved the ignition key to the steering column and implemented a locking steering wheel and locking transmission shifter for anti-theft reasons. This “Reverse Lockout Rod” connects to the bottom of your steering column and locks your transmission shifter in reverse.

The 4 speed manual transmission, could not be ordered on the 351-2V engines. Only 351-4V’s and 429CJ’s in 1971, and 351CJ’s (Q code) in both 1972 and 1973.

*Trivia – 1971 was the last year for the chromed Hurst flat bar shift lever. 1972 – 1973 used a round chromed Hurst shift lever.
