This 1 degree wedge properly sets the pinion angle for the drive shaft.The Mercury Parts Catalog states that this part is installed "As Required".Orientation: Narrow end towards the front of the car.

This 3 degree wedge properly sets the pinion angle for the drive shaft. This is a Cougar specific part which is needed due to the longer than normal rear leaf spring length. There are other wedges, but we seldom see them. This 3 degree marked wedge is the most prolific one. Feel secure in using these as a replacement.  Sold individually, two required per vehicle. These are bolted to the rear frame rails and were used to tie the car down to the transporter for the journey from the factory to the dealer. The dealer was supposed to remove them and return them for a credit as instructed by the dealer. Notice the sticker on the rear license plate frame (decal is available in the decal section)? Late 1971 (4-1-1971) through mid late 1972 Mercury Cougar, approximate cutoff is 3-1-1972. Look for two different things to differentiate the trunk lids. First is the spacing on the bolts to the hinges. This style has a 4-1/4 inch spacing, early 1971 deck or trunk lids have a 3 inch spacing on those hinge bolts.
