This gives the thumb release button in your T shaped shift handle its tension. If it is rusted then your button will not return back to its outer position easily. Fits 1967-73 Mercury Cougar and 1965-73 Ford Mustang. Technically this spring fits all Ford and Mercury floor shifters 1965-73. Ford part number C5ZZ-7C300-A.
